Screen mirroring is a way to project your Android phone or tablet’s screen to a nearby display. The requirements for casting from your phone or tablet are as follows:
- Android device with OS of 4.4.2 and above
- Smart TV or Streaming Device (Chromecast, Roku, etc.)
- Both devices are connected to the same wireless network
Once a connection with the network has been established, the option to use screen mirroring can typically be found in your device’s settings menu. Go to Settings > Display and look for a menu option for screen mirroring or casting.
While the terms for screen mirror vary across manufacturers, here are some of the most commonly used alternatives we’ve compiled (credit to the Roku Support website):
- Smart View
- Quick Connect
- SmartShare
- AllShare Cast
- Wireless display
- Display mirroring
- HTC Connect
- Screencasting
- Cast
Selecting the option to mirror or cast will cause your screen to be displayed on whatever TV is available on the network.
